Qualified & Experienced Occupational Therapists in Dandenong

At a2z Health Group, we work closely alongside children, adolescents and adults who are either recovering from a temporary or long-term injury, or living with disability. Our dedicated occupational therapists are highly committed to supporting our patients on their journey to engaging and participating in everyday life, particularly in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure.

When you seek treatment from our occupational therapists (located in Dandenong), we prescribe a series of specific activities or “occupations” as a means of rehabilitation and promotion of physical and mental well-being. Our services may also involve supporting you with strategies, assistive technology/equipment or modification of the environment to better enable you.

The main goal behind this is to enable and empower people of all abilities to participate in the activities of everyday life, whatever that may be for you. At a2z Health Group, our entire team believes in a holistic and person-centred focus when it comes to assisting you and your loved ones in developing independence and overall well-being.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapists are Allied health practitioners which use specific activities or “occupations” as a means of rehabilitation and promotion of physical and mental well-being.

The main goal of Occupational Therapy is to enable and empower people of all abilities to participate in the activities of everyday life, whatever it may be for you.

Why Occupational Therapy?

Here at a2z, our OTs work with you to enhance your ability to do the things that you want to, need to, or are expected to do by supporting you with strategies, assistive technology/equipment or modification of the environment to better enable you!

We believe in a holistic and person-centred focus when it comes to assisting you and your loved ones in developing independence and overall well-being.

“You treat a disease: you win, you lose.

You treat a person, I guarantee you win-no matter what the outcome.”

OT for children & adolescents

Occupational Therapists work with people of all ages and can help infants, children and adolescents in supporting their ability to participate in daily life activities such as self-care, productivity (school) and leisure.

Pediatric Occupational Therapists work collaboratively with your child, family, schools, teachers, and any other health professionals involved with your child’s care to plan and implement strategies. This plan aims to enable you and your child’s in participating in activities at home, in school or wherever your child would like to thrive!

Occupational Therapists use a play-based approach to intervention as it provides a fun and engaging experience for your child to learn and develop important life skills.

  • Fine motor and Gross motor skills
  • Sensory Regulation
  • Visual Perception

OT for Adults & Older Adults

Occupational Therapists also work with adults and older adults of all abilities to maximise independence, as well as, physical and mental well-being.

The key focus of Occupational Therapy for adults is your Quality of Life by identifying your strengths and the barriers in your environment which may be preventing you from doing what you want or need to do. We can help you work out practical solutions or strategies unique to your strengths  in overcoming these challenges.

Occupational Therapists do this by:

  • Modifying the Environment for better access or safety (grabrails, ramps, platforms, etc..)
  • Provision of Assistive Technology (bed-sticks, toilet frames, chairs, long handled aids, dressing aids, modified eating utensils, cushions, mobility aids, etc…)
  • Developing your skills with:
    • Education (eg., falls prevention)
    • Problem solving or alternative strategies
    • Routine building
    • Coping or self-management strategies
  • Advocating for recommendation or interventions which will support you in your participation.

What to Expect?

Initial Meeting

An informal meeting to get to know you as a person, what is important to you, and what is getting in the way of what you want, need, or are expected to do.

Assessment

Depending on the need, we may conduct a formal assessment to better understand your current abilities and your environment to determine which course of intervention will best suit you. Assessment includes the use of standardised procedures, interviews, observations in a variety of settings and consultation with significant people in your life.

Planning

With the information gathered, we work with you to come up with a plan which includes short and long-term aims of treatment which considers your unique strengths and environmental factors.

Intervention

Intervention focuses on strategies which are aimed to enable and facilitate your ability to perform the chosen tasks. We can also work on adapting the settings in which you live, work, socialize or play in.

Collaboration

We recognise the importance of teamwork and communication. Collaboration and coordination with other professionals, families, caregivers and volunteers are important in the realisation of your journey!
